Abstract

EMAT + High-Resolution Tri Axial TFI advanced tool allows for precise detection of axial features, cracks, and Metal loss in a single run. The two technologies running simultaneously allow for synchronized data collection. EMAT’s 120% surface coverage provides for detailed detection of crack features. At the same time, the high-resolution Tri-Axial TFI with 2.4mm sensor spacing allows for accurate detection and evaluation of metal loss features. The combination of both technologies avoids false calls, metal loss features, and cracks. This combination promotes a comprehensive inline inspection of pipelines, with a wide range of anomalies and defects, all in one inspection run. Combining these technologies leads to a more accurate characterization of pipeline defects. The combined synchronized data collection allows for a better high probability of detection (POD) and (POI) for defects within pipelines, improved probability of sizing (POS), and helps to prevent data interpretation bias. This provides enhanced defect detection within pipelines while minimizing pipeline operational disruptions. Moreover, utilizing the combined technologies (EMAT + high-resolution Tri Axial TFI) in a single run provides more cost-effective inspections. This paper is about the current state of development and the benefits to the pipeline.
