Abstract

This talk explores the characteristics and workplace expectations of Generation Z, the cohort born from 1997 onwards, and compares them with previous generations: Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials. Generation Z, also known as "Digital Natives," has grown up in a world dominated by smartphones and social media, which has shaped their unique approach to work and life.

Unlike Baby Boomers, who view work as a lifelong commitment, or Generation X, who prioritize work-life balance, Generation Z seeks flexibility, rapid career progression, and meaningful work that aligns with their personal values. They are characterized by their impatience, elevated expectations, and a desire for constant feedback and recognition.

The talk highlights the challenges manager face in retaining Generation Z employees, who are more likely to switch jobs frequently in pursuit of better opportunities. It also provides strategies for attracting and retaining this generation, such as offering flexible work arrangements, creating an engaging and supportive work environment, and providing clear paths for career growth. By understanding and addressing the needs of Generation Z, manager can create a more dynamic and productive workforce that leverages the strengths of all generational cohorts.
