Hydrostatic testing of pressure piping systems is often performed without questioning the methodology used and results obtained. There are various hydrostatic test plug designs available to test complete piping systems or just the welded joints, which all have their own set of parameters. This paper presents the most frequently used test plug designs to hydrostatically test open end piping systems and welded flange to pipe joints with their individual set of parameters and capabilities.
