Abstract

Nova Transportadora do Sudeste S.A. – NTS is the gas pipeline operator company in the Southeast Region of Brazil, responsible for a 2,060km extension network, consisting of 9 receiving points, 47 delivery points, 6 compression stations, and a transport capacity of approximately 70 MMm3/d. This network interconnects the most industrialized region of the country to the main offshore production fields of the Brazilian Pre-Salt layer. NTS began its operations in July 2021, and as a world-class pipeline operator, initiated its Real-Time Transient Model (RTTM) implementation project at the beginning of 2022.

The implementation of a real-time simulation system at NTS began with the modeling and tuning of the offline model, followed by integration with the SCADA system. These initial phases were detailed in an article previously presented by NTS in PTC 2024 (ID: 207). The integration with the SCADA system marks the start of the most challenging stage: tuning the online model. This stage presents challenges not only due to the massive volume of data from field instrumentation (over 1,000 tags) to be processed by the model, but also because of the uncertainties and deviation of the instruments, which directly impact the system performance.

Nevertheless, it is essential to make sure that the online simulator can accurately replicate the actual behavior of the pipeline to guarantee that the system's outputs are reliable and suitable for analysis. This paper details how we successfully calibrated NTS' RTTM, overcoming challenges by combining data validation techniques with precise tuning adjustments, leveraging the expertise of both NTS and the supplier. As a result, the system's Go Live was executed after validating the model's robustness and accuracy. It is now being used by the operations team, allowing faster analyses and more confident decision-making.
