Abstract

This presentation will delve into the impact of diversity within teams and leadership boards on project success. Grounded in theories such as Social Identity Theory and the Resource-Based View, it posits that diversity can introduce both tensions and conflicts as well as unique, hard-to-imitate resources that foster innovation and competitive advantage. Empirical studies indicate that team diversity enhances creativity, problem-solving, and adaptability, particularly when psychological safety and clear role structures are present. At the leadership level, a positive correlation is observed between diversity in gender and educational backgrounds and the strategic quality, innovation propensity, and overall performance of organizations. These effects, however, often manifest only after reaching a critical mass.
The presentation will emphasize that diversity should not be pursued for its own sake but should be consciously and structurally integrated to significantly boost innovation, organizational resilience, and long-term project success.
