The ClampOn BIRD Condition Monitor is a cutting-edge, wireless acoustic sensor designed specifically for the downstream and unconventional oil and gas markets. The BIRD (Battery-operated Intelligent Remote Detector) is a non-intrusive, clamp-on device suitable for a wide range of condition monitoring applications on pipes, flowlines, valves, and other critical structures.
This presentation will focus on the ClampOn BIRD Leak Monitor, a specialized application of the BIRD platform. The underlying principle is that leaks generate high-frequency acoustic signals detectable by ultrasonic sensors. In a leak-free environment, the ultrasonic signature remains stable. However, when a leak occurs, the signal pattern changes significantly.
Deploying a network of ClampOn BIRD sensors is fast and straightforward, typically completed within a few hours. Even in remote or undeveloped locations, installation is hassle-free thanks to wireless communication at sub-GHz and battery-powered operation. This eliminates the need for costly cabling, complex wiring diagrams, and termination boxes.
Built on ClampOn’s Ultrasonic Intelligent Sensor technology, the Leak Monitor offers multi-frequency signal analysis and exceptional sensitivity. This allows it to filter out irrelevant background noise and isolate the distinct “hiss” of a leak. The system is capable of detecting small to medium leaks or flow-throughs, even under low differential pressure conditions across the valves seals and seat.
We will explore various applications of the ClampOn BIRD Leak Monitor and highlight the benefits of using this advanced monitoring system. The discussion will be supported by findings from a recent field trial, demonstrating the effectiveness and reliability of technology in real-world conditions
