In the complex landscape of airport asset integrity, obtaining accurate data from feeder lines on the tarmac poses significant challenges. These feeder lines are critical for maintaining efficient airport operations, as aircraft refueling facilities cannot be offline for more than five hours without disrupting aircraft transit and schedules.
The challenge becomes even more pronounced when multiple pipelines, spaced 100 meters apart, require inspection. To address these operational demands, Intero developed the Push-Pull Surveyor, a cutting-edge solution capable of collecting high-quality, accurate data without the need for pumps, launchers, or receivers.
To validate the Push-Pull Surveyor’s performance, Intero partnered with a key customer to execute an extensive inspection program across two airports. This initiative involved inspecting forty 6” pipelines, ranging from 3 to 30 meters in length, over the course of two nights at each airport using push-pull ultrasonic (UT) technology. This allowed for the collection of a representative sample of the customer's pipeline network integrity, providing valuable insights to inform their maintenance strategy.
During the four-night program, Intero inspected 5% of the airport pipeline sections across two different locations. The inspections focused on detecting internal and external corrosion, with specific reports developed to meet the customer’s key objectives. By aligning the inspection process and reporting with the specific operational requirements, Intero provided a comprehensive, data-driven assessment to support effective asset integrity management.
