The EU Methane Regulation guides the Oil & Gas sector to operate and maintain their asset database in a more sustainable way. One of these guidelines focusses on emission proportionality for maintenance and (leak) repairs to the assets. Gasunie has developed an emissions balance sheet to estimate and assess the proportionality for maintenance and repairs. This paper dives into the calculation model, in combination with an outlook on how realized operational data will be used to improve the model output and make predictive models. The implementation the emission balance sheet, gas evacuation application for field technicians and broader emission registration and reporting are similarly discussed. Furthermore, a case will be made as to why an integrated system will be essential in the success of the implementation of the EU Methane Regulation. The successful implementation will therefore be defined both in terms of cost effectiveness, compliance and how future proof the system will be.
