Background

This course is designed to give an introduction to the world of pipeline anomaly assessment and repair. It will: 

  • briefly address the types of anomalies and threats with a focus on types of corrosion
  • run through a brief history of the predecessors and research that led to modern day anomaly assessment codes/standards
  • explain the background, usage and key elements of most widely used pipeline anomaly assessment codes and standards
  • explain the concept of interaction of anomalies
  • present real life case stud(ies) of anomaly assessment in practice
  • give attendees ‘hand on’ experience of anomaly assessment calculation(s)

Approval (for German engineers)

This training course is recognized as a training session in accordance with §6 FuWo. Consulting engineers and members of the German Chambers of Engineers receive 8 training points for participation. 

Lecturer

Adrian Lim is a seasoned industry professional with over 25 years of expertise in onshore and subsea systems and offshore pipelines inspection, maintenance, and repair within the energy sector. With hands-on experience in pipeline engineering, asset integrity management, fitness-for-service assessments, and decommissioning he has worked with various operating, engineering and service companies such as Woodside Energy, Wood Group/JP Kenny, ROSEN,  Worley/Intecsea and RestoreSubsea. Adrian has managed complex pipeline and subsea integrity and IMR projects across the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, various countries in Southeast Asia, and the Java Sea. Up until recent years, Adrian was the Global Managing Consultant -Subsea Integrity for Worley. In addition to his independent consultancy, he is currently also the Engineering Director for Restore Subsea, a specialist subsea and pipelines decommissioning company.

A recognized technical authority including a stint of nearly 5 years as Technical Authority for Pipelines at Woodside, Adrian has contributed to international standards such as AS 2885.3, DNV RP F116, DNV RP F101, ISO 19345 and 22974, and is currently serving on boards such as the Pipeline Technology Journal (ptj), Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) and the Rio Pipeline Conference. Additionally, his leadership in actual operational IMR/integrity management decisions, integrating innovative and digital technologies and experience in technical training ensures practical, industry-aligned learning experiences in his training courses.
