Abstract

Many professionals that work in the Pipeline industry have ended up in their job by coincidence. When asking pipeline professionals who has received specific Pipeline Related Education, most of the answers are negative.

It is about time to change this and make the Pipeline Industry an industry that attracts (young) professionals that make a conscious choice to develop the safest and environmentally friendly mode of transportation into a reliable infrastructure for the next decades.

The Netherlands currently has 2 pipeline specific educations; one accredited MSc Pipeline Technology and a more practical Intermediate Vocational Education that started in September 2018. This is mainly meant for people that are already employed in the pipeline industry. The next step will be to develop minors and/ or majors at universities and specific programs for colleges, that will bring young students in contact with our industry before they enter the market. In this presentation, Cindy will share some of the details and experiences of the education and will request for active input on the next steps to be taken. Participants are invited to share experiences from their region which can be used to further develop pipeline specific education in Europe.
