Pipelines provide a safe and economic means of transporting fluids such as natural gas, crude oil, refined products and natural gas liquids products across great distances and over all manner of terrain. As man made systems however, they can fail from time to time, sometimes with catastrophic effect or sometimes by illegal tapping or by accidental reasons. Repairs and environmental remediation, especially in sensitive areas, can however be very hard and expensive. The purpose of this paper is to share an overview of illegal tap repair applications at Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline project of the Turkey section. We have learned through past experiences that the right decision and proper application of the repair method saves time, cost and money. By closely watching the global pipeline repair applications and new repair methods BOTAS International Limited (BIL) focused on usage of realistic pipeline repair techniques effectively in emergency situations.
