Abstract
In the past, any construction work on the various networks was carried out independently. The utility providers or the internal divisions responsible for drinking water and sewerage now approach these projects together; the planning and the actual construction work are carried out in a coordinated way. In view of the increasing number of building projects and volume of traffic in Berlin, it is essential that such construction measures are coordinated from start to finish. Multi utility network construction is a step in the right direction. BWB has taken all utilities and services into account when carrying out analyses, designing models and developing processes since 2012. These coordinated projects are constantly reviewed to ensure that the coordination continues to make sense, which has resulted in the following: All feasible network construction measures (drinking water, wastewater, rainwater) are consolidated by a committee and evaluated on the basis of set criteria. The contract is then awarded to one internal contractor — either the civil or the structural engineering department. The measures are subsequently planned and realised by the respective department; all other departments or companies involved in combined construction projects are involved in the process right from the start. Furthermore, a construction site map system designed by the company Infrest GmbH is used to coordinate any network construction measures.
