Abstract
In the context of rising demands on quality and safety at the welding processes in pipeline construction the manual welding procedures will be displaced more and more by semi automatic and automatic welding processes.
Thus the fact that (semi-) automatic welding processes for pipeline construction are still in place for more than 30 years especially in the last years in Europe the (semi-) automatic orbital gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or flux core arc welding (FCAW) processes will be applied more frequently.
A further circumstance is the material grade of the line pipe material itself. The use of high strength low alloy line pipe steel grades of up to X80 requesting appropriate welding processes and welding filler metals.
The presentation will give an overview of the relevant steps for the introduction of these innovative technology in the pipeline construction from the point of view as contractor. Beyond that the main advantages of the (semi-) automatic welding processes in comparison the manual welding processes shall be highlighted.
