A new qualification initiative of German Water Management with partners from education, research and industry that is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research tries to enable life-long-learning for all parties involved in the life cycle of water supply and sewage disposal infrastructures in one qualification process. The technical base is the knowledge network platform UNITRACC. The acronym stands for Underground Infrastructures Training and Competence Centre. The urban underground supply- and disposal infrastructures are summarised under the term of Underground Infrastructures. UNITRACC provides the required expert knowledge for their planning, construction, operation, maintenance, rehabilitation and management in the form of web-based information- and learning environments. This initiative is not competing with already existing educational alternatives, but it is rather a sensible supplement to them. Learning takes place at the online academy of UNITRACC. An essential target of the underlying innovative didactic training concept is a work process-oriented life-long-learning approach that is implemented by providing adaptive learning resources for all professionals, regardless of their educational attainment/ level of qualification. Comprehensive and readily available learning resources enable individualised teaching - and learning paths, thus meeting different needs of individual users with regard to contents, ways and methods of training and further education that can be integrated into diverse real-life professional contexts.
